Manual Tracking Task

The Manual Tracking Task is a visuomotor coordination test that requires participants to track a moving target using keyboard arrow keys. A target moves smoothly along a sinusoidal (oscillating) path, and participants must keep a controlled cursor aligned with the moving target by pressing arrow keys to adjust position. Performance is measured by tracking error (distance between cursor and target) over time. This task assesses continuous motor control, hand-eye coordination, sustained attention, and the ability to predict and match smooth movement patterns. It is useful for studying motor control abilities, effects of aging or neurological conditions on coordination, and practice effects in skill learning.
