Overview

Geoscience Letters is the official journal of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society, and a fully open access journal published under the SpringerOpen brand. The journal publishes original, innovative and timely research letter articles and concise reviews on studies of the Earth and its environment, the planetary and space sciences. Contributions reflect the eight scientific sections of the AOGS: Atmospheric Sciences, Biogeosciences, Hydrological Sciences, Interdisciplinary Geosciences, Ocean Sciences, Planetary Sciences, Solar and Terrestrial Sciences, and Solid Earth Sciences. Geoscience Letters focuses on cutting-edge fundamental and applied research in the broad field of the geosciences, including the applications of geoscience research to societal problems. This journal is Open Access, providing rapid electronic publication of high-quality, peer-reviewed scientific contributions. 

Geoscience Letters accepts three types of manuscripts: Research Letters (concise reports on original research, approximately 3,000 to 5,000 words), Reviews (up to approximately 10,000 words), Letters to the Editors (short note on a significant new finding, breakthrough or similar, or on a current topic of scientific news in 300 to 800 words), Comment(short scholarly contributions, , typically less than 2,000 words ) and Reply to Comment (an original paper in Geoscience Letters with an opportunity to respond to a Comment on their published work, usually less than 2,000 words).

  • Change of EIC - Announcement

    After 11 years as Editor-in-Chief for Geoscience Letters, Professor Kenji Satake has handed over the editorship of the journal to Professor James Terry.  Professor Terry has been a member of the Editorial Board since the journal’s inception in 2014.

    The AOGS and the Editorial Board owe Professor Satake a huge debt of gratitude.  Under his leadership, he has taken Geoscience Letters from its early beginnings as an ambition for the Society, to the successful and respected flagship journal it has become.  The Impact Factor for 2024 was 4.3, the highest to date.  The Society extends its appreciation to Professor Satake for his hard work and commitment to the journal.
