IMPORTANT ADVISORY TO ALL VOTING MEMBERS

Indian Sociological Society – INSOSO Elections 2025

The Indian Sociological Society (ISS) urges every eligible voter to personally cast your vote and not share your login credentials with anyone. If you are taking help from another person, please ensure that the vote is cast in your presence, exactly as per your choice.

Verification Campaign

To protect members and the integrity of the election, ISS is launching a voter verification campaign.
You will soon receive an SMS or WhatsApp message showing the date and time of the vote recorded under your name.

Please reply “Yes” (you voted yourself) or “No” (you did NOT vote).

If your credentials were misused and a vote was cast without your knowledge, you will be contacted by our team immediately for further action.

People who indulged in the following actions are prosecutable:

  • Voted using stolen credentials or attempted multiple voting with one credential (bot/script activity bypassing the program), and
  • Mounted a Denial-of-Service (DOS) attack on 12–13 November to disrupt the portal.
Both malafide activities when noticed, were neutralised and the downtime limited to three hours.
Members are strongly warned not to vote using stolen credentials or allow anyone else to misuse their identity. ISS will pursue all such cases to their legal conclusion.

Protection of Members’ Votes

Election Officers have also authorised independent checks to authenticate voters and identify any instances of identity theft or proxy voting. These measures are being taken to ensure that every genuine vote counts and no vote is cast without the members’ consent.

Your Responsibility as a Voter

  • Do not share your ISS voting credentials with anyone.
  • Cast your vote yourself or only in your presence.
  • Respond promptly to the verification message.
  • Report immediately if your vote was cast without your knowledge.

Your cooperation is essential to safeguard the credibility of INSOSO Elections 2025 and the reputation of our Society.

Elections have been ordered to be resumed. The Managing Committee of ISS met at 8:00 pm on 14-Nov-25, chaired by Election Officers (appointed for ISS Elections 2025), to review the Malicious Actors Report submitted by the IT Team. It was strongly decided to resume the voting process and publish the report so that voters make informed choices. The reported incidents and allegations of results leakage, duplicate voting and DOS attack and furthermore, the appropriate legal action against malafide actors who have been identified and whose IP address has been identified were discussed. Majority of the participants agreed urgent punitive action is called for. Please read The President & Secretary’s letter dated 15-Nov-25 here. The voting process will now end at 1700 hours (India time) of 19 November, 2025 (Wednesday). For the Announcement from the Election Committee, ISS Election 2025, Click Here.

INSOSO Election 2025 – Important Update & Member Advisory

The Election Team wishes to reassure all members that the INSOSO Election 2025 system remains fully secure, uncompromised, and is operating on schedule. Recent disturbances caused by a few mischievous actors have been analysed, contained, and neutralised. Voting continues normally.

Summary of Reported Incidents (13 Nov 2025)

1. Misleading screenshots falsely presented as “leaked results”.

Temporary diagnostic cache pages, inadvertently visible on Google for a short period, were picked up and circulated as “election results”. These were not generated by the election results program and contained no real or correct data. The issue has been rectified.

2. Attempts at multiple voting through automated scripts.

A bot-driven attempt to submit multiple votes using stolen or misused member credentials was detected and blocked. Only the first genuine vote of each member is counted; all duplicate or script-generated entries are automatically nullified.

3. Denial-of-Service (DOS) attack causing temporary slowdown.

A targeted DOS attack created spurious traffic and briefly impacted portal performance. The offending IP was identified and blacklisted after which normal operations were restored.

Findings from System Audit

Our audit trails have already identified the IP addresses and user credentials involved in these malafide activities—including attempts at automated voting and deliberate disruption of portal performance.
These findings have been shared with the Election Authorities. Members whose credentials were used in such actions may face inquiry and potential legal consequences.

All affected members are advised to change their passwords immediately to prevent misuse by third parties.

Your Vote Is Safe. The Election Is Secure.

The integrity of the election has not been compromised at any stage.
All malicious activities have been detected, blocked, and nullified.
The voting system continues to function as designed, with strong safeguards and real-time monitoring.

INSOSO Election 2025 will continue exactly as scheduled.

Thank you for your cooperation and for ignoring rumours and misinformation.
