Spontaneous eye-blink rate, prefrontal haemodynamic responses and cognitive flexibility are measured in 113 children aged 35–80 months. With age, prefrontal activation shifts towards a right-dorsal pattern and performance improves; a higher blink rate accompanies both, marking it as a candidate indicator of executive function development.
