Democracy works when every voice counts
Democracy is strongest when every voice has a place at the table. On the International Day of Democracy (15 September), the United Nations highlights how dialogue, participation and understanding different points of view can build trust and more inclusive societies. This year’s focus on deliberative democratic processes explores how bringing diverse voices into decision-making can give people greater agency and strengthen governance. As the Secretary-General stresses, democracy is more than elections: it is a daily practice of human rights, the rule of law and meaningful participation.
